1ἔδοχσεν τ[ι β]ολι καὶ τι δέμοι, Ἀντιοχὶς ἐ[πρυτ]‒
2άνευε, Δρακ[ον]τίδες ἐπεστάτε, Διόγνετος εἶπε·
3κατὰ τάδε τὸν hόρκον ὀμόσαι Ἀθεναίον τ‒
4ὲν βολὲν καὶ τὸς δικαστάς· «οὐκ ἐχσελ Χα‒
5λκιδέας ἐχ Χαλκίδος οὐδὲ τὲν πόλιν ἀνά‒

1Beschluss von Rat und Volk; die Antiochis hatte die Pry-
2tanie inne; Drakontides war Vorsitzender; Diognetos stellte den Antrag:
3dass nach folgendem (Wortlaut) den Eid schwören von den Athenern
4der Rat und die Richter: „Nicht werde ich vertreiben die Chal-
5kidier aus Chalkis noch die Stadt zer-
6stört machen, keine Einzelperson mit Atimie
7belegen oder mit Verbannung strafen, weder ergrei-
8fen noch töten noch das Vermögen einziehen
9von keinem, der verurteilt ist ohne (Mitwirkung) des Volkes der Athe-
10ner; werde nicht ohne Vorankündigung abstimmen lassen
11gegen die Gesamtheit oder irgendeine Einzelperson;
12und wenn eine Gesandtschaft eingetroffen ist, sie führen
13vor den Rat und das Volk binnen zehn Tagen, wenn
14ich Vorsitzender bin, soweit möglich. Dies werde ich unver-
15brüchlich einhalten den Chalkidiern gegenüber, wenn sie folgen dem Volk
16der Athener.“ – Dass den Eid abnehme die Gesandtschaft
17nach ihrer Ankunft aus Chalkis zusammen mit den Eideshelfern
18den Athenern und aufschreibe diejenigen, die geschworen haben.
19Dass alle schwören, dafür sollen Sorge
20tragen die Strategen.  vacat
21Nach folgendem (Wortlaut) sollen die Chalkidier schwören: „Nicht abfallen
22werde ich vom Volk der Athener, nicht durch List
23oder Machenschaft, nicht in Wort oder
24Tat, und werde dem, der abfällt, nicht folgen,
25und wenn jemand auf Abfall sinnt, (ihn) anzeigen den Athenern;
26und den Tribut zahlen den Athenern, zu dem
27ich die Athener veranlassen kann, und Bündner sein,
28nach Kräften der beste und pflichtbewuss-
29teste, und dem Volk der Athener helfen
30und beistehen, wenn jemand Unrecht zufügt dem Volk der
31Athener, und folgen dem Volk der Athe-
32ner.“ – Dass schwören von den Chalkidiern die Erwachse-
33nen allesamt; dass der, der nicht schwört, der Atimie
34verfallen und sein Vermögen eingezogen und
35dem Zeus Olympios der zehnte Teil geweiht
36sei von dem Vermögen; dass den Eid abnehme die Gesandt-
37schaft der Athener nach ihrer Eintreffen in Chalkis zusammen mit
38den Eideshelfern in Chalkis, und auschreibe
39diejenigen Chalkidier, die geschworen haben.

40Antikles stellte den Antrag: Zu Glück und Heil der Athener!
41Dass den Eid leisten die Athener und Chal-
42kidier, so wie es für die Eretrier beschlossen
43hat das Volk der Athener; dass dies so rasch wie
44möglich geschehe, dafür sollen die Strategen Sorge tragen.
45Dass als diejenigen, die nach ihrem Eintreffen in
46Chalkis vereidigen, das Volk fünf Männer wähle
47unverzüglich; dass betreffs der Geiseln man Be-
48scheid gebe den Chalkidiern, dass für jetzt die Athe-
49ner meinen, es zu belassen wie beschlossen;
50dass sie aber, wenn angebracht, nach Beratung einen Austausch
51machen werden, wie es zweckmäßig scheint
52für Athener und Chalkidier; dass die
53Fremden in Chalkis, (außer) die (dort) wohnhaft sind
54und nicht nach Athen Steuern zahlen, und wem sonst verliehen wurde
55Steuerfreiheit vom Volk der Athener, die anderen
56alle ihre Steuern nach Chalkis zahlen wie die anderen
57Chalkidier; dass diesen Beschluss sowie den
58Eid aufzeichne in Athen der Sekre-
59tär des Rates auf einer steinernen Stele und
60aufstelle auf der (Akro)polis auf Kosten der Chalkidi-
61er; in Chalkis soll in dem Heiligtum des Zeus
62Olympios der Rat der Chalkidier aufzeichnen
63und aufstellen; dass man dies beschließe für die Chalki-
64dier;  dass die Opfer gemäß den Orakeln
65bezüglich Euboia unverzüglich vollziehen zusammen mit
66Hierokles drei Männer, die gewählt hat der
67der Rat aus seiner Mitte. Dass die Opfer so rasch wie möglich
68geschehen, dafür sollen die Strategen gemeinsam Sorge tragen und
69das Geld hierfür zur Verfügung stellen.  vacat
70Archestratos stellte den Antrag: das andere, wie von An-
71tikles (beantragt), aber: dass Bestrafungen den Chalkidiern
72in Chaklis nach eigenem Ermessen seien so wie in
73Athen den Athenern, außer Verbannung und Todesstrafe
74und Atimie; dass in diesen Fällen Berufung gegeben sei
75nach Athen an die Gerichtsversammlung der Thesmo-
76theten gemäß dem Beschluss des Volks; dass für den
77Schutz Euboias die Strategen Sorge tragen
78nach besten Kräften, damit es
79für die Athener so gut wie möglich steht.

2was the prytany. Drakontides was chairman. Diognetos proposed:
3The Athenian Council and jurors
4shall swear an oath in the following terms: „I shall not expel the Chalkidians
5from Chalkis, nor shall I lay waste
6the city, nor shall I deprive any individual of
7civic rights nor punish any with exile nor take any prisoner,
8nor execute any, nor confiscate the money
9of anyone not condemned in court, without the authority of the Athenian
10People; and whenever I am a prytany member I shall not put anything
11prejudicial to the interests of an individual or the community to the vote
12without due notice, and any embassy that is sent I shall bring
13before the Council and People
14within ten days, as far as I am able; and I shall
15maintain this while the Chalkidians obey the Athenian People.“ An embassy is to
16come from Chalkis and administer
17the oath to the Athenians with the commissioners for oaths and
18list the names of those who have sworn;
19and the generals shall take care that all
20take the oath.   vacat
21The Chalkidians shall swear an oath in the following terms:
22„I shall not revolt from the People of Athens
23by any means or device whatsoever,
24neither in word nor in deed, nor shall I obey anyone who does revolt;
25and if anyone revolts I shall denounce him to the Athenians,
26and I shall pay to the Athenians whatever tribute I
27persuade them to agree, and I shall be
28the best and fairest ally
29I am able to be and shall help and defend the Athenian
30People, in the event of anyone wronging the Athenian
31People, and I shall obey the Athenian People.“
32All the Chalkidians of military age shall
33swear; and if anyone does not swear he is to be deprived
34of his civic rights and his property is to be made public and
35a tithe of it dedicated to Olympian Zeus.
36An embassy shall go from Athens
37to Chalkis with the commissioners for oaths
38and administer the oath in Chalkis and list
39those of the Chalkidians who have sworn.

40Antikles proposed: for the good fortune of
41the Athenians, the Athenians and Chalkidians shall make the
42oath just as the Athenian people voted
43for the Eretrians, and the generals shall take care
44that this happens as quickly as possible.
45As soon as possible the People shall choose
46five men to go to Chalkis to exact the oaths.
47And on the matter of hostages, they shall reply
48to the Chalkidians that for the moment
49the Athenians have decided to leave matters as they have been voted;
50but when it seems good to them, they will deliberate and make
51an agreement (or: exchange) on terms which seem suitable
52for the Athenians and the Chalkidians; and the
53foreigners in Chalkis — except those living there who pay
54no taxes to Athens, and anyone who has been given
55tax exemption by the Athenian People — the rest
56shall pay taxes to Chalkis, just like other
57Chalkidians; and the secretary of the Council
58shall write up this decree and oath at
59Athens on a stone stele and set it down
60on the acropolis at the expense of the Chalkidians,
61and let the Council of the Chalkidians write it up and
62set it down in Chalkis in the sanctuary of Zeus
63Olympios. These things shall be voted about
64the Chalkidians. vacat And as for the sacrifices
65for Euboea required by the oracle (or: required by the oracle about Euboea),
66three men chosen by the Council from their own number
67shall perform them as quickly as possible with Hierokles;
68and so that the sacrifices may take place as quickly as possible the generals
69shall jointly take care of them and provide the money for them.
70Archestratos proposed: in other respects as
71Antikles proposed, but the Chalkidians shall hold officials to account
72on their own behalf in Chalkis, just as the Athenians
73do at Athens, except where a penalty of exile, execution,
74or loss of civic rights is involved; and on these matters there shall be appeal
75to Athens to the court of the court presidents
76in accordance with the decree of the People; and as to the guarding
77of Euboea, the generals shall take care of that
78as best they can in the best interests
79of the Athenians.
