1(Betrifft: Die) Methonaier von Pierien.
2Phainippos S.d. Phrynichos war Sekretär. 
I
3Beschluss von Rat und Volk; die ErechtheïsI hatte die Pryta-
4nie inne; Skopas war Sekretär; Timonides war Vorsteher; Dio-
5peithes stellte den Antrag: dass abstimme das Volks unverzüglich hinsichtlich
6der Methonaier, ob man es für gut befinde, dass das Volk sogleich einen Tribut festsetzt
7oder sie darauf beschränkt, nur soviel zu entrichten, wieviel an die Göttin von
8dem Tribut ging, der an den voraufgegangenen Panathenäen
9zu entrichten festgesetzt worden war, vom Rest aber befreit zu sein; dass von den Beträgen,
10die, bei der Staatskasse verzeichnet als (rechtmäßig) eingefordert,
11die Methonaier schulden, wenn sie so nützlich sind den Athe-
12nern wie jetzt und noch besser, die Athener
13eine besondere Behandlung gewähren bei der Eintreibung; und wenn ein generel-
14ler Beschluss bezüglich der Schulden, die auf den Holz-
15tafeln verzeichnet sind, ergeht, soll er nicht die Methonaier betreffen, falls nicht
16extra ergeht ein Beschluss über die Methonaier; dass man drei
17Gesandte im Alter von über fünfzig Jahren schicke
18zu Perdikkas und dem Perdikkas sage, dass man es für rech-
19tens halte, die Methonaier die Seewege benutzen zu lassen, und nicht
20erlaube, sie zu behelligen, und (er) sie Handel treiben lasse
21wie bisher ins Landesinnere und (ihnen) nicht Unrecht tue noch (von ihnen) Unrecht er-
22leide und durch das Gebiet der Methonaier kein Heer füh-
23re ohne Einverständnis der Methonaier. Und wenn sich beide Seiten einigen,
24sollen die Gesandten einen Vertrag zustandebringen; wenn nicht, beide
25Seiten eine Gesandtschaft zu den Dionysien schicken, mit Vollmacht,
26das, worüber sie uneins sind, vor den Rat und das
27Volk (zu bringen); dass man Perdikkas sage, dass, wenn die Soldaten
28in Poteidaia sich lobend äußern, eine gute Meinung
29über ihn haben werden die Athener. Das Volk entschied durch Abstimmung: dass die Metho-
30naier entrichten, wieviel an die Göttin von dem Tribut ging, der
31an den voraufgegangenen Panathenäen zu zahlen festgesetzt worden war, vom
32Rest aber befreit seien.

32                Beschluss von Rat und Volk;
33die Hippothontis hatte die Prytanie inne; Megakleides war Sekre-
34tär; Niko- - - war Vorsteher; Kleonymos stellte den Antrag: dass den Methonai-
35ern (erlaubt) sein soll Ausfuhr von Getreide aus Byzantion bis zu
36- -tausend Medimnen jedes Jahr. Die Helles-
37pontwächter sollen weder selbst (sie) an der Ausfuhr hindern
38noch zulassen, dass ein anderer sie hindert, andernfalls sie bestraft werden mit zehntausend Drach-
39men jeder; dass nach schriftlicher Anmeldung bei den Hellespont-
40wächtern sie ausführen (dürfen) bis zur festgesetzten Menge. Unbehelligt
41sein soll auch das Schiff, das ausführt. Wenn einen generellen Beschluss
42über die Bünder die Athener beschließen betreffs (militärischer) Hil-
43fe oder sie sonst etwas den Städten auferlegen, entweder
44sie selbst oder die Städte betreffend, soll (nur), was sie ausdrücklich bezüglich der
45Stadt der Methonaier beschließen, dies zutreffen
46auf sie, alles andere aber nicht, sondern mit dem Schutz für ihr eigenes Gebiet
47sie als auf dem Posten gelten; was nach ihren Worten sie von Perdikkas
48an Unrecht erleiden, dass darüber die Athener beratschlagen, was
49gut zu sein scheint bezüglich der Methonaier, wenn (nach Rückkehr)
50von Perdikkas die Gesandten vor dem Volk aufgetreten sind, sowohl die
51mit Pleistias als auch die mit Leogoras gereist sind; dass für
52die anderen Städte sie verhandeln, wenn angefangen hat
53die zweite Prytanie und sie nach den Sitzungen in der Werft
54sogleich die Volksversammlung einberufen haben; dass man ohne Unterbrechung die
55Sitzungen dort abhalte, bis ausverhandelt worden ist, und nichts anderes vorher
56verhandle, sofern nicht die Strategen ein Anliegen haben.

2Skopas was secretary. Timonides was chairman. [Diopeithes]
5proposed: that the People shall vote immediately with regard to
6the Methonaians, whether it seems right that the People should assess their tribute
7immediately or that it should be sufficient for them to pay as much to the Goddess as resulted
8from the tribute which they were assessed at the previous Panathenaia
9to pay, and to be exempt from the remainder. Of the
10debts [being demanded] which the Methonaians have been recorded as owing
11to the public treasury[of the Athenians], if they are amenable to the
12Athenians as now and even better, the Athenians shall - - -
13- - - concerning the exaction; and if there is any general
14decree about the debts recorded on the
15wooden tablets, nothing shall apply to the Methonaians unless
16there is a separate decree about the Methonaians. Three
17envoys over fifty years old shall be sent
18to Perdikkas, and say to Perdikkas that it seems right
19to allow the Methonaians to use the sea and that they should not
20be limited, and that he should allow them to enter his territory and trade
21as before, and that he should not wrong them or be wronged by them,
22nor send a military force through the territory of the Methonaians
23against the will of the Methonaians. And if the two parties agree
24let the envoys bring them to terms; if they do not, let each send a
25delegation to the Dionysia, with authority
26about the matters in dispute, to the Council and the
27People. And say to Perdikkas that if the soldiers
28in Potidaia praise him the Athenians will hold a
29good opinion of him. The People voted that the Methonaians
30should pay as much to the Goddess as resulted from the tribute which
31they were assessed at the previous Panathenaia to pay, and be
32exempt from the remainder.

33Hippothontis was in prytany. Megakleides was secretary.
34[Niko-] was chairman. Kleonymos proposed: that the Methonaians
35shall be permitted to export grain from Byzantium up to –
36thousand medimnoi each year, and the guardians of the
37Hellespont shall not themselves prevent them from exporting or
38allow anybody else to prevent them, or else let them be fined ten thousand
39drachmas each. The Methonaians, having written to the guardians of the
40Hellespont, may export up to the limit fixed; and the ship
41exporting shall be exempt also. Whatever general decree
42about the allies the Athenians enact concerning
43going to support, or giving any other instruction to the cities either about
44the Athenians themselves or about the cities, whatever they enact mentioning the
45city of the Methonaians shall apply
46to them, but otherwise not; but if they guard their own
47territory they shall be doing their duty. As for the wrongs they say
48they have suffered from Perdikkas, the Athenians shall consider what may
49seem good to them concerning the Methonaians, when the envoys who have been with Perdikkas
50appear before the People, those who
51went with Pleistias and those with Leogoras.
52The other cities’ business shall be dealt with when the second
53prytany has entered office, holding an Assembly immediately after
54the sessions in the dockyard: the Assemblies shall
55run continually until the business is completed, and no precedence shall be given
56over this to any other business, unless the generals ask for something.
